SCV WATER AGENCY MYTHS

MYTH #1   The SCV Water Agency can control the growth in our Valley by not providing water to developers.

TRUTH: The Santa Clarita City Council and the County of Los Angeles approve all new development in our Valley. SCV Water is a Public Agency just like Edison Electric and SoCalGas and, by law, we are required to find and provide water for these new developments.

MYTH #2   The Water Agency has cut back our watering so that developers can build more homes.

TRUTH: Governor Newsom has required all water agencies in the state of California to implement Stage 2 of their drought plan.  This mandate requires the SCV Water Agency to limit outdoor water use or face heavy fines which would ultimately be passed on to you, the ratepayers.

MYTH #3   The water in the Santa Clarita Valley is not safe to drink.

TRUTH: The water provided to our ratepayers meets or exceeds all state and federal requirements.  Our water is tested thousands of times a year.

MYTH #4   Our water costs too much.

TRUTH: SCV Water rates are some of the lowest in Southern California.  We all pay about 37 cents per 100 gallons of water.

MYTH #5   The Water Agency doesn’t have enough water for the future.

TRUTH: The SCV Water Agency has a diverse portfolio of water supplies that, along with conservation, will meet our needs far into the future.
