SCV Water Agency Myths
Some of the big myths you hear about what the water board can & can’t do.
MYTH #1 The SCV Water Agency can control the growth in our Valley by not providing water to developers. – NOT TRUE
TRUTH: The Santa Clarita City Council and the County of Los Angeles approve all new development in our Valley. SCV Water is a Public Agency just like Edison Electric and SoCalGas and, by law, we are required to find and provide water for these new developments.
MYTH #2 The Water Agency has cut back our watering so that developers can build more homes. –
NOT TRUE
TRUTH: Governor Newsom has required all water agencies in the state of California to implement Stage 2 of their drought plan. This mandate requires the SCV Water Agency to limit outdoor water use or face heavy fines which would ultimately be passed on to you, the ratepayers.
MYTH #3 The water in the Santa Clarita Valley is not safe to drink – NOT TRUE
TRUTH: The water provided to our ratepayers meets or exceeds all state and federal requirements. Our water is tested thousands of times a year.
MYTH #4 Our water costs too much – NOT TRUE
TRUTH: SCV Water rates are some of the lowest in Southern California. We all pay about 37cents for 100 gallons of water.
MYTH #5 The Water Agency doesn’t have enough water for the future – NOT TRUE
TRUTH: The SCV Water Agency has a diverse portfolio of water supplies that, along with conservation, will meet our needs far into the future.
